The Weather
Woke up to the wind whistling around our digs. A glance out of the window. Lashing rain.
Doesn’t matter. We can still go out. It’s part of being on holiday. Nah, mate, I don’t fancy walking around with rain running down my back. Don’t be a moaner, crack on. It’s the outdoors, it rains.
Yeah, it’s going to stop this afternoon. Might be a bit breezy. So what? Doesn’t matter. What matters is the getting out part.
Here’s the thing. You can stay indoors, watching the weather. Or you can get out and experience it. Ah, now. There’s a drumroll moment. Experience it. I reckon that’s the kicker.
It’s funny how being on holiday makes you think in new ways about the weather. I often don’t care what it does. But walking along in the pouring rain needs clothes meant for it. That’s what it comes to.
Decent coat. A cap. Hoods only work if you don’t mind not hearing. And trainers designed to cope with the wet. That’s it.
Then? You get out there. You’ll build up loads of “remember when” stories. You’ll feel alive. And that? That’s where the experience comes from.
Another glance out of the window. Zip the coat up. Rain cover for the backpack. Off we go.
